MMIPO

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto, was founded on the 14th of March 1499, and is a Private Social Security Institution (non-profit organization) with an active and crucial role in regards to the response of the region's social needs.

Constituted under Canonical Law, with philanthropic and public utility aims, its mission is to charitable and social assistance.

For over 500 years, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto, as always known how to fulfil its social function, serving the most disadvantaged under the humanitarian provision of the 14 Works of Mercy.

Among the various Misericórdias of Portugal, the Misericórdia do Porto is not only one of the oldest but also one of the most important, for its numerous establishments and for its number of users, for its vast and valuable heritage and for its dignified and prominent history.
