The Misericórdia do Porto is governed by their own status that King D. Manuel I in its founding charter, called "Regiment", a word that would soon be replaced by the term "Commitment".
The primitive Commitment given to the Misericórdia do Porto was the same given by Dona Leonor to the Misericórdia of Lisboa. Also, the privileges of the Misericórdia of Lisboa were assigned to the Misericórdia do Porto.
