The idea of the "Flowers Nativity Scene" came from a challenge launched by the Office of Religious and Worship to the different establishments of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto. This initiative is intended to stimulate, annually, the making of a Nativity Scene at the Misericórdia do Porto Church.
A working group was created with members of the Conde de Ferreira Hospital Center, the Centro Integrado de Apoio à Deficiência (Integrated Center for Disability Support) and the Estabelecimentos Residenciais para Pessoas Idosas (Residential Establishments for the Elderly). This project had the collaboration of the users and the occupational teams of these establishments and proposed to reflect the spirit of the Misericórdia do Porto and the Christmas period.
From the "Flowers Nativity Scene", whose name refers to the street that houses, it, emerges a brainstorming where words such as annunciation, lily, holy family, fleur-de-lis, Christmas rose and nativity, appear.
The project takes the form of a set of plans and lights contained in a wooden box that appropriates one of the windows of the Church and expands into a projected web, creating the illusion of a vanishing point that reinforces the attention to the central figures.
Noteworthy are also the flowers of different sizes and materials that adorn the surroundings, creating a pattern of uneven tones and causing a white mixture.
