Isabel Calado
Harpsichord interpreter. She performs regularly in concerts in several European countries and Japan as a soloist and also integrated various chamber music groups and orchestras. Among the orchestras with whom she has worked, the Orquestra do Norte, the Orquestra do Algarve, the Orquestra Com.Cordas (Braga) and the Baroque Orchestra of Nagoya (Japan) stand out. Among the chamber music groups with whom Isabel Calado has worked with, the Musica et Tempora, the Ensemble dos Biscaínhos and the partnership, since 2009, with the UK resident tenor, Márcio da Rosa stand out.
Her discography includes two CDs: Six Prussian Sonatas by Bach and Pièces de Clavecin: Huitième et Douzième Ordres by F. Couperin, both recorded at Rangel Studios in Porto. She also recorded Scarlatti sonatas in the unique original Portuguese harpsichord from 1758 made by J. Antunes that survived to this day lying in the Music Museum in Lisbon.
Parallel to the ongoing performative activity, she also teaches harpsichord and basso continuo at the Porto Music Conservatory. Since 2011 several of her students have won awards in harpsichord nationwide contests. In March 2015 she taught a master class in harpsichord and chamber music in Nagoya, Japan.
In regard to her training, she began her studies at the school where she teaches today - the Music Conservatory in Porto. She completed a degree of two academic cycles in music, instrument variant and harpsichord in the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa in 2006. She also obtained a masters degree in Ensino da Música (Music Teaching) at Escola das Artes da Universidade Católica in 2011.
In 2005 she received a merit award attributed by the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa.
She perfected her knowledge with renowned harpsichord interpreters and in master classes in various European countries such as: Carole Cerasi, Terence Charlston, Ilton Wjuniski, Ketil Haugsand, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Giorgio Cerasoli, Laurence Cummings and Sieber Henstra.
