Celebrated every October 18, on the
day of St. Luke the Evangelist (the patron saint of painters), since 2011, the
National Day of the Church's Cultural Heritage aims to promote the reflection and
sharing of the work developed in the context of the Portuguese dioceses.
Under the theme "Religious
Heritage: Identity and Places", taking inspiration from the encyclical of
Pope Francis, Laudato Si (particularly in number 143), in 2015 this initiative
focuses on the specificity of the religious heritage of each region, intending
to integrate the history, culture and architecture of each place, while
maintaining their original identity, but also paying "attention to local
cultures" and to the dialogue of "technical-scientific language".
The MMIPO will participate in this initiative with the following activities:

Guided visit to the Museum of
Misericórdia do Porto (MMIPO) and to the Private Church which aims to give a
perspective of the history of Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto and its
institutional purposes. The intention is to show some works of art that are
part of the collections of the Museum and also the rehabilitation intervention
performed in building. In the Benefactors Gallery a short film and a
presentation about the restoration of the Museum building will be displayed.
