MMIPO

Culture
Culture has always had an important role in the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto.
In this context, two cultural spaces play a pivotal role concerning the cultural to the cultural promotion of the Porto city itself (for its symbolism and heritage value): the MMIPO - Museu da Misericórdia do Porto and the Casa da Prelada.
Located in the historic centre of Porto, the MMIPO it is a cultural space that aims at disclosing the history, with more than 500 years, of one of the major institutions of the city - the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto.
The collections presented in this Museum include painting, sculpture, jewellery and vestments, among other artistic expressions, which are major milestones of Portuguese art and, in some cases, of European art, as exemplified by the Fons Vitae. The church itself is a matter of interest, as its façade is, perhaps, the one that best expresses the language developed by Nasoni.
In MMIPO and the Casa da Prelada, the Misericórdia do Porto develops, sometimes in partnership with other institutions, its cultural agenda by carrying out concerts, temporary exhibitions, conferences, launching of publications, among other activities.
