Precious metals at the service of Faith: About the silver collection of Misericórdia do Porto

The art of precious metals in Portugal, since medieval times, acquired an enormous relevance concerning the volume of expenditures of religious institutions. Other times, gifts and bequests enable the many, to form relevant silverware collections, giving a particular environment to religious ceremonies. The Misericórdia do Porto is no exception; on the contrary, its silverware core has sixteenth century adornments - the renowned chalices and patens of Arouca monastery - fine examples of the eighteenth century and a set of parts of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, illustrating, mostly, some goldsmith workshops, of the respective periods, from Porto.
